Glorious Norwegian Sheepskins There are few who can resist the beauty and comfort of these remarkable sheepskins! The visual aspects of these unique displays of Nature's magic are so enticing. Choose from the curly locks of Gotland in many different shades of gray; the flowing locks of Spelsau in white, gray, black or brown. While the colors and textures are the feature attractions, no one can handle the soft luxurious leather without noticing that these skins are special! The Granberg tannery in Norway uses a special tanning process and the results of this secret process are evident at first touch. Handling instructions included.
How does buying sheepskins help save an ancient breed from extinction? By making it more profitable for farmers to grow these sheep. In every year, the same number of male and female lambs are born. The females are kept to breed and the males are sold for meat. If the pelts can be sold, the operation is more profitable. Only superior pelts are selected for the honor of becoming a sheepskin by the peltmaster. One clear, cold, December night I dropped in at a friend's house for a visit. She suggested we have a glass of wine out on her deck. Normally, I love sitting on her deck overlooking woods and pasture, letting my cares and worries diminish to their proper insignificance, but not in this cold. My friend assured me we would be warm, bundled in a collection of her sheepskins. And we were. And it was wonderful to be outside at night looking at stars on the winter solstice. Color photographs (coming soon) of representative sheepskins. Each one is different, call or e-mail us for a description of sheepskins in stock.
